Puka Puka Juju is one of the four anime works that each received 38 million yen (about US$470,000) from the "2011 Young Animator Training Project." Just like in 2010, the animation labor group received 214.5 million yen (US$2.65 million) from the Japanese government's Agency for Cultural Affairs, and it distributed most of those funds to studios who train young animators on-the-job.

The short is set in a coastal town in Kumamoto at the tail end of summer 1996. The 10-year-old boy Minato lives a precarious life with his drunkard father. Minato's only source of strength is Ben-chan, a goddess in the form of a young girl that appeared in Benten Island. The time he spends with her are the only times where he feels like himself. But when he is about to be separated from Ben-chan due to being sent to a children's home, Minato prays to a Shiranuhi, a mysterious light floating above the sea, to grant him one wish. His wish, filled with hatred towards his father, eventually becomes a curse. Note: Initially teased at AnimeJapan 2024 in the CoMix Wave Films booth, a visual of this project was shown off with a description being a new animation project by a "rookie director".

Young Mari hates eating vegetables and drinking milk so much that she has nightmares about being force-fed the items. One day at school, the young girl chokes down her milk and vegetables and promptly faints from the shock. When she wakes up in the nurse’s office, she comes face to face with Ninninman, Piman and Milk, three food sprites that only appear when Mari drinks her milk and eats her carrots and peppers. Though Mari is less than enthusiastic about being haunted by her most hated foodstuffs, can the three spirits help her realize the importance of friendship, and maybe even teach her to finish her meals? The Agency of Cultural Affairs of Japan invested 214 million yen ($2.26 million) in "Young Animator Training Project" and entrusted the execution of the project to Japan Animation Creators Association (JaniCA). JaniCA will produce four original anime (23 min long with OP and ED sequences) in cooperation with four production studios. Bannou Yasai Ninninman is one of these four projects.
